Some of the features of LAN Accounting
are:
Restrictions
can be based on a combination of elapsed
time or transferred data. These restrictions
can be enforced for n day period beginning
from user defined dates. Restrictions
can also be assigned to users, group or
specified computers.
Restrictions
can be set on a combination of time/data
transfer download and upload sizes.
Each
restriction can be active at different
periods within a weekday. For each day,
three different periods can be defined.
Credit
calculation can be based on a combination
of time or data transfer. In addition,
it is possible to postpone calculation
process after a specified amount is exceeded.
This
concurrent login only relates to Internet
concurrent usage with user names and does
not relate to network login.
Each
restriction may contain a pool of IP address
range which can be treated as permitted
or banned IP addresses for selected users
or groups. This will help restricting
users to specified IP ranges.
Downloading
files in a local area network results
in the allocation of great portion of
bandwidth. LAN Accounting allows administrators
to specify maximum permitted download
size and thereby reducing bandwidth requirements.
Its
usually necessary to install special (client
side) software on user computers rather
than the software installed on server.
This creates problems for installing and
updating these programs on every computer
in a local network. LAN Accounting works
as a stand alone and server side only
software and does not require any software
installation or system configuration on
client computers.
LAN
Accounting can also support trusted domain
users and apply respective restrictions.
Runs
under Windows NT or Windows 2000 operating
systems and integrates with its user data
base. LAN Accounting does not perform
any authentication and therefore there
is no need to store user passwords on
its database. This approach leads to high
security levels.

Users
will receive a proper message in the event
of restriction infringements. These messages
are in HTML format and can be customized
based on clients preferences.
Administrators
can monitor user activities when they
are connected to the internet. This may
include monitoring of:
- connection duration
- computer name or IP address of
connection
- last URLs visited by each users
- current bandwidth allocated to
users
- transferred data (send & receive)
for each user
LAN
Accounting uses MMC as its standard management
environment. This will prevent time and
energy to be consumed working with a new
environment since all administrators are
familiar with MMC environment.
LAN
Accounting Management Console is designed
to control multiple servers via single
console. It is also possible to install
that console on another computer and control
desired server(s) remotely.
Almost
all organizations prevent users from having
access to some special sites. LAN Accounting
helps managers to enforce their policies
with the capability to filter a collection
of URLs or providing access only to the
permitted sites. This in turn results
in a better productivity and eliminates
Internet abuse.
Internet
advertisements use a great amount of bandwidth
which results in slow connection speed
and remarkable time to download pages.
LAN Accounting with a complete list of
advertising URLs can filter undesired
advertisements and save up to %30 of Internet
bandwidth.
LAN
Accounting provides additional component
called Web pack which allows users to
change their password or obtain summary/detailed
reports on their usage in a friendly and
easy to use web based environment. Administrators
can also obtain a variety of reports remotely
from this web based environment.
LAN
Accounting provides comprehensive reports
for administrators. Reports can be generated
for users, groups and computers on selected
period of time. Each report has different
customization options.
